Gil Elbaz is an American entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. He co-founded Applied Semantics (ASI) in 1998, which developed contextual advertising products, including AdSense. Google acquired ASI in 2003 for $102 million. After the acquisition, Elbaz served as Engineering Director at Google's Santa Monica office until 2007. In 2008, he founded Factual, an open data platform for application developers that leverages large-scale aggregation and community exchange. Factual merged with Foursquare in 2020, and Elbaz became Co-Chairman of the combined entity's Board of Directors. He is also the founder and Chairman of the Board of Common Crawl, a non-profit organization dedicated to democratizing access to internet information. Additionally, Elbaz is a Managing Partner at TenOneTen Ventures, a Los Angeles-based venture capital firm.
