Garry Tan is a Canadian-American venture capitalist and executive. He is the current CEO and President of Y Combinator, a prominent startup accelerator. He is also a founder of Initialized Capital, a venture capital firm that has invested in companies like Coinbase, Instacart, and Flexport. Prior to his work in venture capital, Tan co-founded Posterous, a blogging platform acquired by Twitter, and was an early employee at Palantir Technologies. He is known for his focus on early-stage investments and has been recognized on the Forbes Midas List. Tan has publicly expressed support for Israel's actions in the Gaza war and led a boycott of the 2023 Web Summit in protest of statements critical of Israel. He is also actively involved in San Francisco politics, advocating for increased housing development, public schools, and public safety.
