About

The Council for Higher Education in Israel (CHE) is the Israeli government agency responsible for higher education affairs, including teaching, science, and research. Established in 1958 by the Council for Higher Education Law, it is an independent, apolitical, and professional statutory corporation. Its main roles include issuing licenses for higher education institutions, accrediting institutions and academic degrees, proposing and allocating budgets for higher education through its Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC), and promoting research and innovation. The CHE aims to separate the political system from higher education to ensure academic freedom and quality.
