Xenolith Medical adapts proven angioplasty retention and navigation technologies for endourology. The companys first product, the XenX, prevents the common problem of migrating stone fragments during ureteroscopic lithotripsy. The major technological adaptation consists of a mechanical structure implemented as a self-expandable braided mesh with an ultra-high expansion ratio (x25). This high expansion ratio enables insertion of the stone retention device into the ureter as a slender wire, less than 1 millimeter in its outer diameter, with self-expansion in the ureter to a maximum width of 12 millimeters. Advanced wire technologies, such as hydrophilic coating and kink-resistant materials, are used to allow navigation and maneuverability past occluding stones.
