About

SpaceIL is an Israeli non-profit organization established in 2011. It was founded to compete in the Google Lunar X Prize to land a spacecraft on the Moon. While the Beresheet 1 mission in 2019 ended with a crash landing, it successfully reached lunar orbit, making Israel the seventh country to do so and the first privately funded entity to attempt a lunar landing. SpaceIL's primary goal is to promote STEM education in Israel and inspire children to pursue careers in science and technology. The organization was working on its second mission, Beresheet 2, which aimed for a double landing on the Moon, including one on the far side, but this mission has been suspended in 2025 due to lack of funding.
