About

LiVA is a deep-tech company developing microbiome-based solutions for fresh food protection and supply chain management. The company analyzes the microbial ecosystems of fresh produce and designs targeted, natural methods to extend shelf life and maintain quality. Its technology is designed to operate in points of the supply chain where cold storage is less effective, particularly in the first and last mile of logistics.

LiVA’s approach promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria rather than eliminating microbes. Its first product, the LiVA sticker, incorporates a patented nutrient blend that does not contain live cultures. When applied inside fresh produce packaging, the sticker serves as a localized nutrient source. Beneficial bacteria are attracted by water vapors, feed on the nutrients, and spread across the produce surface. This enables them to outcompete spoilage organisms while the nutrients remain confined within the sticker.

The technology is compatible with standard produce packaging and can be scaled for commercial use. Beyond post-harvest applications, LiVA is exploring crop protection as a potential alternative to pesticides. The company is also developing BLINK!, a prebiotic ink for direct-on-pack printing, with planned applications in bakery, ready meals, cut fruit, and related sectors starting in 2027.

Commercial pilots have been conducted across multiple crops and regions. Strawberry trials in Greece and Egypt reported positive economic returns; blueberry pilots in Peru are being run with a significant share of exporters and have shown advantages compared with sulfur dioxide treatments; mango pilots in the UK indicated an increase in salable fruit after ripening; and Israeli trials suggested reduced reliance on fungicides. To date, over 12,000 berry punnets have been shipped using LiVA’s technology. The company reports signed letters of intent, established teams in Latin America and South Africa, and regulatory clearance for commercialization.
