About

LFSMD Ltd (Lead-Free Soldering Materials Development) was founded in 2005 as partof IKA Industrial Consulting Ltd, which was a metallurgic consulting firm and research laboratory. In response tothe exploding number of electronic devices containing toxic lead soldering, a lead-free option was mandated by European regulations in 2006. LFSMD has developed a lead-free solder alloy based on a tin-zinc system. Its melting point is slightly higher than that of the conventional tin-lead alloy, but still in a range that permits the use of most existing electronic components and the utilization of the same manufacturing equipment and processes. LFSMD is privately owned and is financed by Dr. Alberto Kaufman and private investors.
