FabriXense incorporates biometric monitoring into smart clothing to provide active and continuous measurement of biomedical parameters including heart rhythm, breathing, oximetry, and blood pressure. Its sensor technology is based on patented methods for measuring the reflection of light-penetrable optical fibers. The fiber-like sensors can be as thin as a few dozen microns, similar to the fibers used for optical communication. Special artifacts inserted into the fiber core use a two-stage detection process. The first stage involves the interaction of light with the wearer, as a portion of the light passes through the fiber and is reflected from the wearer's body back into the fiber. The second stage is interpretation by the in-fiber interferometer, which measures with high precision both movements and deformations in the fiber. FabriXense's fiber-based sensor is integrated into the clothing, and full contact with the wearer's skin is not required to perform the measurements. The sensor is suitable for all types of clothing.
