About

AutoMate has developed a system that combines the benefits of mass transportation with the convenience and privacy of a personal car. The passenger cockpit is attached to a a four-wheeled chassis in car mode, but then separates from the chassis before connecting to an overhead transport system. According to AutoMate, the system could reduce door-to-door travel time by 50% to 80% during rush hour. Compared to using a private car, the AutoMate system could use up to 50% less energy to reach the same destination. The system would require only modest modifications to existing infrastructure, thus reducing the initial investment required to get the system up and running. Estimated annual user expenses would be equal to or less than the expense of driving a standard car.
