Breeding for Stomata Closure
SPV Technologies is developing smart plant valve technology based on the discovery of the mechanism that controls stomata opening, which proves that sugars close stomata via the sugar sensor hexokinase (HXK) in guard cells. Increasing the amount of HXK in guard cells allows plants to have much more efficient stomata, saving water, enhancing growth, and increasing yield.
