Reducing the GHG Nitrous-Oxide (N2O) Emissions from Fertilizer Use in Agriculture
N2OFF is developing a microbial solution that directly reduces nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from agricultural fertilizer use, a greenhouse gas with nearly 300 times the warming potential of CO₂. The company has isolated five effective bacterial strains and filed two patents protecting its technology, which can be applied as a seed coating, soil amendment, or foliar spray. Greenhouse and semi-field trials in wheat and corn have shown 30–60% emission reductions without yield penalties, and large-scale field trials are planned with leading partners.
