Kin is a blockchain-based ecosystem originally built on top of the Ethereum platform. It was developed by Canadian instant messenger company Kik Interactive to support microtransactions through its Kik Messenger platform. Kin is operating in Israel through Kik Israel that was founded in January 2017 when Kik joined forces with Rounds, an Israeli mobile video chat company. The group video integration in Kik was the first feature completed by the Israeliteam before the acquisition. In September 2019, Kik underwent a process of restructuring in which the company shut down its Kik instant messaging app and focused only on the Kin blockchain network.
