Green2Pass is developing a laser-based technology that evaluates real-time traffic situations and warns the driver about dangerous passing maneuvers.
Designed to determine whether passing is safe, the technology operates day and night in any visibility and in all weather conditions. When the driver begins a passing maneuver, a laser beam illuminates the road and a camera captures reflections from car license plates, creating a series of pulses that are processed by DSP algorithms in real time to detect oncoming traffic up to one kilometer away.
The Green2Pass system also alerts drivers to keep a safe distance from vehicles located ahead of and behind them, as well as about pedestrians, cars stalled on the roadway, traffic jams, driving over the speed limit, and crossing the center line.
The system can also be used for railway collision avoidance. It can detect incoming trains up to six kilometers away and automatically recognizes potentially dangerous situations, such as track junctions and objects on the railway.
