In 2016, Ford acquired its first Israeli company, a computer-vision and machine-learning company named SAIPS, which became its R&D center. The acquisition further strengthens Ford's expertise in artificial intelligence and enhanced computer vision. SAIPS has developed algorithmic solutions in image and video processing, deep learning, signal processing, and classification. This expertise will help Ford's autonomous vehicles learn and adapt to the surroundings of their environment.
In 2019, Ford opened its Ford Research Center in Israel. The center will serve as a research hub augmenting Fords global Research and Advanced Engineering team. It will also support Fords automotive and mobility businesses by identifying technologies and startup companies in the fields of connectivity, sensors, automated-systems research, in-vehicle monitoring, and cybersecurity.
