Emefcy is a wastewater treatment company developing and commercializing energy-efficient and cost-effective wastewater treatment and reuse products. The company has developed two technologies, MABR and EBR, which address limitations in municipal and industrial plants.
The Emefcy Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) is a modular, decentralized wastewater treatment process that requires just 10% of the energy used by conventional technologies. This technology is based on spiral-wound respiring membranes that provide oxygen to the process and support the growth of a nitrifying biofilm. Through an integrated process of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification, the MABR produces high-quality effluent with less operational input.
The modular product design enables distributed treatment and gradual expansion possibilities over time. MABR is suitable for wastewater treatment and reuse in small municipalities, hotels, resorts, casinos, campgrounds, mining camps, commercial centers, and golf courses.
Emefcys Electrogenic Bio Reactor (EBR) treats industrial wastewater while simultaneously generating electricity from the process to be fed to the grid. EBR is an energy-positive wastewater treatment technology with a lower sludge-handling cost because very little sludge is produced. Like SABRE, EBR is based on a modular design, enabling gradual implementation and easy expansion.
As of July 2017, Emefcy is merged with RWL Water, forming Fluence Corporation.
